Summary of Findings – Nightscaping Modular Landscape Lighting Fixtures

Written by Vanessa Kordich

On Friday, I met with DSG manufacturers and, with Heather’s help, had the opportunity to review Nightscaping’s new modular landscape lighting fixture line. I was genuinely impressed by the functionality and flexibility this system offers.

The modular design is a major advantage. The ability to adjust wattage, color temperature, and overall performance with the simple click of a button on each module makes both installation and onsite adjustments incredibly efficient. Because there’s no need to pre-spec every detail for each installation, this product significantly streamlines our design process. It also gives Hamptons Landscape Lighting the flexibility to fine-tune lighting in the field—especially during nighttime aim-and-adjust sessions.

Being able to modify light output and color temperature on the spot ensures that our design intent is perfectly executed across the entire landscape. This level of adjustability is a tremendous benefit for new installations and an equally valuable solution for upgrading existing systems.

For the lighting lines we offer at Hamptons Landscape Lighting, the high-CRI options within this modular system would be a strong asset. They would allow us to accent landscapes with exceptional color rendering and overall lighting quality. The only drawbacks we noted were the slightly larger fixture size for wash applications and the current lack of adjustable risers in the product line. Even so, the advantages clearly outweigh these limitations.

I look forward to applying this technology to enhance landscapes and provide seamless, premium-level upgrades for both current and future clients.

Modular landscape lighting is an outdoor lighting system that allows installers to adjust wattage, beam spread, and color temperature within the same fixture.

High CRI landscape lighting uses advanced LED technology to render plant materials, stone, and architectural features with accurate, natural color at night.

Field-adjustable outdoor lighting enables lighting professionals to fine-tune brightness and color temperature onsite during nighttime aim-and-adjust sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is modular landscape lighting?

Modular landscape lighting is a system that allows installers to adjust key lighting components—such as wattage, beam spread, and color temperature—without replacing the entire fixture. This design provides greater flexibility during installation and long-term maintenance.

How does adjustable wattage benefit a landscape lighting system?

Adjustable wattage allows lighting professionals to fine-tune brightness levels directly in the field. This ensures the proper light output for trees, architectural features, pathways, and garden beds without over-lighting or under-lighting the space.

What does tunable color temperature mean in outdoor lighting?

Tunable color temperature allows you to change the warmth or coolness of the light (typically measured in Kelvin). This feature makes it possible to match the lighting to different landscape materials, plant colors, or architectural styles for a cohesive nighttime appearance.

Why is high CRI important in landscape lighting?

High CRI (Color Rendering Index) lighting enhances how accurately colors appear at night. In landscape lighting applications, high CRI fixtures make greenery, stonework, and architectural details look more natural and vibrant.

How does modular lighting simplify the design process?

Because wattage and color temperature can be adjusted onsite, designers do not need to pre-spec every detail before installation. This streamlines planning and allows for precise aim-and-adjust sessions after dark to achieve the intended design effect.

Is modular landscape lighting suitable for upgrading existing systems?

Yes. Modular systems are ideal for retrofits and upgrades because light output and color temperature can be modified without replacing entire fixtures, making improvements more cost-effective and service-friendly.

Are there any limitations to modular lighting fixtures?

Some modular wash fixtures may be slightly larger in size compared to traditional models, and certain product lines may not yet include adjustable risers. However, the flexibility and performance benefits typically outweigh these limitations.

Who benefits most from modular outdoor lighting systems?

Homeowners seeking premium outdoor lighting, landscape designers who want precise control, and contractors looking for efficient installation and service-friendly solutions all benefit from modular landscape lighting systems.
